Christine Walker’s last name should be “Runner” considering how quickly she’s established herself in Toronto’s professional dance and teaching community. Born and raised in Montreal, she progressed quickly from dancing in a competition school at the age of eight to dancing in a junior company that toured France and Spain only a few years later.
Choosing to commit to an education in dance brought Christine to Toronto to study dance at Ryerson University, where she earned her BFA. Then the big opportunities came knocking during the Pan Am Games in 2015, when Christine had the opportunity to perform as part of Cirque du Soleil’s hip-hop dance troupe. “We performed at the Rogers Centre for the opening ceremonies of the game,” she says proudly. “It was an amazing experience to perform in front of thousands of people!”
But world-class performances aside, Christine’s real passion is to teach. “It doesn’t matter what age group or style, I love to teach!” she boasts. “I come from a methodological background where I teach people to have confidence and motivation by gaining strength and knowledge. I really invest myself in my classes and put my love for dance into every minute of them.” In 2015, Christine was teaching so much that she decided to open her own dance studio. After moving locations a few times, she finally settled in Steps Dance Studio Inc. at Yonge and Wellesley Streets where Walker Dance Studio was born.
