When Linda Penwarden was first starting out as a young jewellery designer with a smallish home studio, clients were drawn to her website by the beauty of her designs. When she was ready to establish a retail store in 2003, however, she wanted to find a neighbourhood that would be the right fit. On Mount Pleasant Road, she saw other artists nearby and felt at home.
"What I loved about this street when I first arrived was the character," Linda explains. "There was lots of creativity: art, restoration, antiques, photography. It still is a very unique spot."
While her website continues to act as a beacon for lovers of fine jewellery throughout Canada and even across the globe, the bricks-and-mortar location of Penwarden Fine Jewellery has become an integral part of the local community.
"The people in this neighbourhood are the nicest people in the world," says Linda. "It's funny that it's called Mount Pleasant because it is so pleasant. Now that we've been here for over a decade, we feel part of the neighbourhood, which is like a little family.
Her local clientele love the in-house treatment. With its focus on custom design, the team at Penwarden Fine Jewellery has a lot of experience in helping clients coax the beginnings of an idea into a finished piece.
"We're very open about the process. We get it right, no matter how long it takes. People trust that we are going to do the best job that we can possibly do. And we stand behind out work."
