Before going to this restaurant I reviewed what other people had to say about it on here so that I had an idea of what I was going into. First impression was that the restaurant was really classy, expensive and all you can eat. So I knew what to expect going there. When we got there we were seated right away, however we only had the all-you-can eat menu on our table. We had to wait 10 minutes before a waitress even came to our table to talk to us. At that point we had to ask for the other menu so we could decide on which we wanted to order from. When the waitress came back she gave out 2 menus to the 4 of us (even though she brought 4 menus) and then tried to take the all you can eat menu away from us, I had to stop her, being afraid that if we decided to order the all you can eat we would have had to wait another 10 minutes to get the all you can eat menu back. Then she walks away with 2 menus in her hand still. We then had to wait another 5 minutes to ask for 2 more of the regular menus (the ones in her hand that she brought to the table but decided not to hand out but walk away with). Also while waiting for the waitress for 10 minutes originally; I had to switch my chair with another table because it was broken and very uncomfortable to sit it. Wish we could've switched our table as well because it was wobbly and annoying to eat on. So we decided on the all you can eat menu. Looking over the menu it was hard to decide what we wanted because the menu was all the Japanese names without the English description underneath (except for one random item had an English description). Having gone to a lot of sushi restaurants I knew what some of the items were but there was so much stuff on the menu. I think they were going for a classy feel to it and thinking people who know food should know the items but for an all you can eat restaurant you want service to be quick and not have to have the waitress explain every single item on this huge menu to us. (I'm thinking this may be the reason why the service was so slow) I am also wondering now what I may have liked to order that I never got a chance to because I didn't know what it was. The plus side was the Kitchen somewhat had it together because the food was quite excellent and it came out fast. The only problems I had was that some of the items we ordered never came out and the sushi and sashimi had to be order in numbers of 5 or 8 (so random and I couldn't figure out why they had that rule, doesn't make sense and it added another amount of confusion to the ordering process which took more time for the waitress to have to explain). Over all the food was good and it was a good selection (if you could figure out what they had) and the food came out fast. The service from the front of the house staff was horrible and for the amount of money you pay you deserve better. Not sure if they brought over family members from another country to work in their restaurant but for a restaurant that is supposed to be classy and expensive, you can't do that unless they are trained staff that know how to give good customer service or you train them.
JJ's features a regular menu with an optional AYCE (all you can eat) menu as well. For the price, the AYCE is definitely the value choice if you are going to have more than just an entree. The Good: Nice Place, the Thai selection of the AYCE was pretty good. Hot foods where on par with hits and misses in the selection. The Bad: Some of the sauces tasted a little funny. The sushi definitely was not as fresh as the majority of the Japanese AYCE places I have visited. Sashimi must be ordered in combos, i.e. butterfish + snapper + Octopus + salmon. So you don't get to just order 6 pieces of Salmon Sashimi. The Ugly: Service was utterly terrible, wait staff very rude and have a superiority complex. Wait staff was not very helpful with questions I had on the menu and didn't come around too often. Really, the Thai food was good but not authentic, the Japanese food was terrible and not authentic, your better going next door to Regal and have Chinese chefs, cooking really good Chinese food. Below average food and service mixed with price being on the higher end of AYCE Asian cuisine will keep me away from Double JJ.
I had been to JJ Japanese Thai beforehand and was never disappointed. This was my third visit and I was more than pleased. The restaurant was nicely decorated with beautiful table linens, wall decorations, and pillows. The servers were kind and attentive. Our server, whose name was Alina, was so kind and friendly, she asked us if there was anything we needed on a consistent basis and also provided free ice cream for being such great customers! I was pleasantly impressed. The food was amazing, the pad thai was filling and excellent, along with the maki. I would come back here in a heartbeat, no doubt about it!
I came here for my birthday a few months ago and have been back several times since. The food is simply incredible, probably the best Thai food I have even eaten. Contrary to what others are saying, the service is quite good. One waiter in particular is excellent, though I believe he works there only on the weekends. He's always smiling, always helpful in suggesting good menu choices, and is very accommodating. The atmosphere is great as well; comfy yet stylish feel, nice decorating, and overall fun feel to the restaurant. I definitely recommend JJ Japanese Thai to everyone who enjoys Thai food, or for anyone looking for an excellent meal in a great atmosphere.
I went to this restaurant for my birthday for the first time and I thought the food was good. I don’t like Japanese food but the Thai menu was great. The restaurant has very similar Thai food to the Spoon and Fork Restaurant in Mississauga and I was told that the same people own both places. I had the green curry chicken with coconut steamed rice and the mango salad. Everyone in my party enjoyed their food, the curry was quite hot, if you don’t like spicy food don’t order it, but if you do it was great! The coconut curry sauce was rich, creamy and flavorful. We also really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. I did think their spring rolls were way over priced but I would definitely go back.
My boyfriend introduced me to JJ's a few days ago and being of Japanese descent, I was quite skeptical going to a restaurant which serves both Japanese AND Thai food. Scary actually. We avoided the sushi menu and ordered cooked food. We had the enoki maki to start (a new concept. Its way better at Miyabi), tum yum soup (vegetable), pad thai for him and golden coconut curry with coconut rice (and black sesame seeds on my rice which got me confused for a moment, as sesame seeds are used to garnish Japanese rice). The pad thai was good. The golden curry with chicken was on the salty side. We were brought a mystery mushroom/tempura appetizer and thinking it was our enoki maki we started eating it, when our waitress came by to take it back from us after realizing they served it to the wrong table! What are the odds it would happen again? It did. A waiter came to our table and left a stirfry dish that we didn't order, and being experienced in the game by now we told the waiter we did not order it. We saw it being delivered to the table next to ours followed by some glares from the girl who had witnessed it. We will definitely be back to sit at the same table by the kitchen door, and share one miso soup while anticipating free food coming our way again. What a great experience it was!
went there couple days ago. Nice environment but services is not good. they don't give us menu until we ask, the male waiter gave us water glass, but in a rude way. Food is so-so but expensive. will not visit again
One of the best Thai restaurants in the GTA. Food was excellent and fast. Spiced just right. Waiter was a little slow and unattentive, but he didn't hover or bother us too much. was okay. Food was fabulouso.
This used to be one of our favourite places and if I didn't have the experience I did the last time, it would be much more positive. The last time we were there the food quality was terrible and the service was just as bad. I don't know what happened to this place. The calamari was so dry and rubbery I couldn't believe it. The sushi was also rubbery and chewy, my fiance didn't eat half her plate. My jasmin honey tea was cold and flavourless. We don't like to complain a lot so we didn't say anything, although I might have if I would have gotten the chance, our waiter never came to check on us the entire time. I have to say it again, don't know what happened here. We've been there many times and we used to have the complete opposite experience but this was so bad I can't imagine going back any time soon. What made it worse was that it was for my birthday.
I had the spicy tuna roll and rainbow roll. Good sushi but not spectacular. My dining companions enjoyed the Thai dishes - probably more than I enjoyed the sushi. There's a good selection on the menu so there's something for everyone. Service was quick and friendly.
We enjoyed this meal with friends. It was very well presented and the food was tasty and fresh. Our waiter seemed a bit "unskilled" and it took a long time to get the bill but the overall experience was good to great. PS: What's with the chairs? Could use a few blocks under the legs to raise them up to normal level.
I have visited the restaurant twice, fell in love with the food and the atmosphere, but the service was slow and the servers were on the verge of ignoring their customers. I blamed this poor service on it being a busy night. I gave the restaurant a second chance and went for a second visit; once again the food was amazing from the presentation to the combination of flavours. I was however, once again disappointed with the service. The following are only a few of the service failures I experienced during my last visit: to start the evening, the host could not find our reservation only to later find out that the reservation was booked under the wrong name, there also seemed to be a shortage of servers as they were literally running between tables, my server forgot to bring out my entrée and took about 20 minutes for it to finally arrive after my friend had already finished her main course. To finish off the evening it took us 30 minutes to get the bill after asking for it three times. Their food is absolutely amazing, with that said I am very grateful for their take out menu as I don’t think I will return for dinner in the dining room any time soon.
My wife and I read some reviews on here and decided to give JJ's a shot. It was really good! Atmosphere and design is top notch. Food was really good - super flavorful. Service was OK, but pretty good for a busy Friday night. We had calamari and spring rolls to start, pad thai (regular) and green curry chicken for main courses. Green curry was really good - tons of flavour and plenty spicy. For dessert we had the mango stick rice - different, but really tasty and nice. Definitely recommended - we'll be going back
The ambience of this restaurant is excellent - low-lighting; quiet; elegant, warm decor. The service was perfect. And the food....DELICIOUS. I'll definitely be going back there next time I'm in town.
JJ's has quickly become our favourite spot to wind down from a hard day/week, to celebrate special occasions, and generally just to treat ourselves. The menu, which has been recently updated, is fabulous, with a wide variety - everyone, even Mr. Steak and Potatoes, can find something to please their palates. Over the past couple of months, we've sampled a large number of their dishes, and can wholeheartedly recommend the roast duck in tamarind raspberry sauce, the Spicy Basil, and the Thick Curry Peanut Sauce. Also the curry pumpkin soup was amazing with a good level of spice. Their signature martinis are a must try! Fantastic food, wonderful atmosphere and an option for take out? Can't miss.
the service was a bit slow, but then it was very busy- having said this they are very friendly - loved the decor - the food was excellent - this has to now be on my favourite place to eat in Mississauga.
We are all great fans of the Spoon and Fork restaurants and the Prince Japanese Steak House in Mississauga. This is the latest version by the same owners. We have all loved the other restaurants, and this new one offers a larger selection in the menu with the advantage of both Thai and Japanese. Decor is very sophisticated with a friendly ambiance. Service was excellent . We were there on a Friday night. Would recommend highly!
the service was slower the i would expect, the food was good but did not make anyone at the table go wow. and we had to flag someone down to get the bill. The style was mint. beautiful place. I think I will have to give it another try once the staff gets settled.
My fiancee and I recently found out about JJ's and decided to have dinner there to celebrate a special occasion. We were very pleasantly surprised. Amazing food, elegant decor, outstanding service. We loved the atmosphere, upscale dining with very reasonable prices. Quality and selection of food and wine was excellent. The menu presents a lot of options, and since we both love Japanese and Thai -- this was a perfect place to have both. We started off with fried calamari, and had a few rolls (maki). Spicy tuna and rainbow were very good, and we're picky about our sushi :) For the main course we had spicy basil shrimp and sukiayaki beef, which were outstanding. Perfect evening, highly recommend JJ's. Definitely the hottest new place for fine Japanese/Thai cuisine in Mississauga.
Fabulous new restaurant! My husband and I also happened to drive by it and thougth we'd give it a try. The atmosphere and ambiance is great - I thought it would be a more fine dining restaurant until I read the menu and saw the very reasonable prices! Great value! Pad Thai for example is $11...and there is a lot of variety on the menu. Sushi was fabulous and 2 thai staples - tom yum and the (bankok) pad thai were amazing!! The service was also very attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant and hope it will be around for a long time so I can come back with family and friends!
