Hazel Chan and Paul Wu opened Contrast Living in 2015, selling home décor and fun accessories to shoppers along Queen Street West. One day, a local hand-made furniture designer asked if he could sell some of his work in the store. “That got Paul interested, so he learned how to make his own, which we featured in the store as well.” The furniture became so popular they reduced the home accessories side of the business, brought in other artists and moved into a new wood workshop.
In July 2017 Contrast Living moved again, this time to Etobicoke with a bigger, better showroom for their customers to see. While Paul works at making unique wood furniture, Hazel uses her talents to provide furnishing and interior decorating services through Contrast Living. Working with both residential and commercial customers, the two have teamed up to provide custom pieces for decorating or staging an office or home.
