A few friends of mine took me out for a birthday lunch at the Bento Box. I had only heard good things in the past about this restaurant, and I had always wanted to try it. I found the food to be very disappointing. Being that any kind of asian is my favourite cuisine, I was really surprised in the poor quality of our meals. None of us were impressed with our meals, and I was astonished, since I the only reviews I had heard in the past were positive. It is definetely a birthday I will never forget, but not for the right reasons. You couldn't pay me enough to come back to the Bento Box. Even the water tasted gross. I plan to let all of my friends know to keep away from this dive of a restaurant.
I came in just as they opened to pick up some take out lunch for my husband and myself.
Word of advice - DO NOT GO WITHIN ONE HOUR OF OPENING.
The sushi rice was leftover rice that was microwaved and reused. There was way too much vinegar in it, making it soggy. There were still cold parts mixed in with the warm!
The fish did not taste fresh and smelled fishy; luckily (hah) there was not that much fish in the rolls. The seaweed (nori) was chewy and tough to eat.
We have eaten here over the past few years and have noticed that the quality of the food, and the portions have definitely shrunk.
It's a shame, but I don't think we'll be eating there again.

Contrary to another review of this restaraunt, I like Bento Box's version of the spicey roll. It's a nice subtle heat, nothing that over powers the taste of the fish or rice.
Prices are excelent, and the people there are friendly.
The restaurant was clean and the decor modern, although it was obvious this used to be a coffee shop. As for the food, the presentation was good but there were some quirks. The sushi rice was soft, and a little too much rice vinegar was used. And my spicy sampler - no not spicy at all, and adding sauce to raw tuna just before rolling does not constitute a spicy roll! What happened to marinated tuna? And why did they roll my wasabi into a tiny little playdoh-like ball? Other establishments will simply dole out a random chunk. It made me think, 'Ew, fingers massaging my wasabi.' The service was adequate although it was obvious they were run off their feet with take out orders. It took 10 minutes plus our calling it to their attention, to have our green tea brought to our table. Overall, the experience was adequate and the food didn't give us unwelcome bowel movements that night. Will we be back? Probably, since we can't get luscious, melt-in-your-mouth sushi here like we get back home in BC.

I would consider myself a regular here. It's the best for sushi in Burlington. The owners and staff are lovely people. Although I agree with the previous post that sometimes it's a bit cool in winter. Parking can be tricky to find on Friday/Saturday eve. However, it's a gem of a restaurant.
