“Here in the Fraser Valley, we want to keep our kids busy and out of trouble, so we want them playing sports all year, but new equipment for every sport comes with a hefty price tag,” says Susan Smith. “So this is our make-sense business: it’s very green and it’s good for everyone. We are taking used sports equipment out of the hands of people who don’t need it and putting it into the hands of people who do.”
Prior to opening Sports Replay in 2003, Susan and Dave Smith were already accepting trade-ins at their White Rock bicycle shop, which Susan would sell at garage sales at their home. They decided to branch out to help local families keep their kids in sports at an affordable price, as well as free their garages of the stockpiles of equipment not being used.
“Dave and I have three children, and before we started this business, we used to hang onto all the equipment for the next kid,” says Susan. “But we have two sons and a daughter in between. Nothing ever fit our girl and there’s a five-year gap between the boys, so it was taking up too much space in the garage while we waited to see what fit our youngest. So we thought how can we do this differently?”
Every time I have gone in this store I have had a great experience. The staff was very friendly, helpful and knowledgable. I highly recommend this store for any sporting purchase, new or used.
The employees at Sports Replay seem to have no training whatsoever and are totally incompetant. The manager (Ryan) is extremely rude and treats customers with arrogance and distain. I will NEVER do business there again!
