Toronto’s Finest Comfort Food Crawl runs through the 6 for two weeks this August. Grab your official passport at any of the 10 participating restaurants across Toronto and get one comfort food dish at every stop for just $5 (from Cuban sammies to three-bite doughnuts). Bonus: the festival supports Second Harvest, so you can chow down on these killer deals knowing it’s for a great cause. Photo courtesy of Toronto's Finest.
The Dirty Bird Chicken & Waffles is a counter-serve joint in the Annex that serves – you guessed it – fried chicken and waffles. Crispy fried chicken is served up cafeteria-style on metal trays. If you like your bird crispy, golden and juicy on the inside, this is the chicken for you. At the Comfort Food Crawl you can indulge in a mini chicken and waffles: a sweet, fluffy waffle topped with a one-piece bone-in chicken.
Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria is a laidback restaurant in the Annex, specializing in classic Neapolitan-style pizzas fired perfectly in their authentic oven that was imported from Italy. Take advantage of their drink specials when you stop in to pick up your Comfort Food Crawl reward: a personal-sized margherita pizza with rich tomato sauce, Canadian mozzarella and fresh basil.
This casual BBQ spot serves ribs, brisket, pulled pork and classic southern trimmings on Spadina at Harbord. During the Comfort Food Crawl, flash your passport and grab a tangy pulled pork sammie topped with house slaw and served on a soft bun.
NomNomNom Poutine & Crepes is a takeout stall at Dundas and Bathurst serving French street food and specializing in authentic Quebecois-style poutine. Flash your passport and indulge in a classic poutine with a twist: potato frites, cheese curds and gravy from Quebec are topped with a hotdog and bacon bits.
Burgatory is a food truck success gone restaurant, and you can chow down on their playful burgers at College and Crawford. Their menu is themed around the seven deadly sins and during the Comfort Food Crawl, the delightfully messy Sloth Burger, with hickory sticks and velveeta, is just $5 for passport holders.
Rashers Ossington is dedicated to serving one of Canada’s iconic sandwiches: peameal bacon on a bun. Their ultra cool, comfortable space is equipped with tall booths for getting messy, warm exposed brick walls and a bright red and white mural. During the Comfort Food Crawl their classic Hogtown sandwich, peameal bacon on a bun with homemade ale mustard, will be on offer for passport holders!
La Cubana on Ossington is a bright, retro-inspired Cuban restaurant serving sandwiches and plates to hungry west enders. This spot is laidback and fun with quick counter service. For the Comfort Food Crawl, Cubana is offering the Cuban burger topped with red cabbage slaw and pickles on a rustic bun.
