Not that long ago, Great Spirit Gallery owner Christi Johnson felt she needed a change in her life, one that would help local artists and art lovers. “I came from the business world on Bay St., but I wanted to do something new in my life,” Christi says, “and I’ve always loved The Beaches. I wanted to bring back that idea of this area’s boutique shops. So I decided to open a gallery that fit with that idea.”
It seems Christi wasn’t the only one who wanted her to open her gallery, as fate intervened when she went looking for a location. “I feel like the universe sort of handed me this space,” she says. “I walked past this old poster shop that was shutting down and the owner was inside, packing boxes. It was the perfect moment.” So Christi took over the space, opened Great Spirit Gallery and, to quote Christi, she “hasn’t looked back.”
