If you took part in the Tour de France way back when, you would have been followed at some distance by a carriage-like vehicle that kept an eye on the cyclists. If you couldn’t make it one metre further and collapsed to the ground, someone would jump out of this vehicle, pick you up and somehow get you to the end of the trail, even if it wasn’t on two wheels. “The nickname for this was the Broom Wagon,” grins Marty Vanderhoek owner of, well, Broom Wagon Cyclery. “We like to see ourselves as a store that helps our customers make it to the finish line, whatever that may be.”
