For four decades, The Cultch has been prized as a hub for Vancouverites to experience the best in artistic forms, from local plays to international dance and music performances. Originally known as the Vancouver East Culture Centre, The Cultch went through extensive renovations in 2009 and stuck with the nickname dubbed by locals.
The Cultch has three different venues: the main 200-seat theatre, the smaller attached Vancity Culture Lab, and the York theatre on Commercial Drive, which opened in 2013. There is also a gallery, allowing all art forms to be celebrated throughout the theatre. “We’re really trying to evoke discussion and celebration in the community,” says Heather Redfern, Executive Director. Despite its various venues and art showcase opportunities, The Cultch stays true to a down-home nature inherent in a 100-year-old building, with cozy seating, flowing drinks and intimate nooks to explore paintings and sculptures while chatting with friends before the show.
