Ty Philips has been been taking pictures his whole life and loves telling stories from behind the lens. But it wasn't until he moved to Los Angeles in 2003 and started taking photos for aspiring actors that he saw the opportunity to make photography his career. Ty founded Pixarola Photography in 2004, moved back to Vancouver in 2007 and has been developing his versatile photographic skills ever since. He works across a range of photographic disciplines, including commercial, editorial, headshots, event and lifestyle.
Pixarola Photography has opened many interesting doors for Ty, including the opportunity to travel for work. His “Hollywood by Light” project, depicting various eye-catching light installations in Hollywood, has been displayed up and down the West Coast. He was hired as the supervisor of photography for Cirque Du Soleil's North American tour of CORTEO, a project that ran for a year and a half and involved hiring and training over 80 photographers across the continent.
Despite working occasionally for large corporate clients, Ty says that the one thing he finds really gratifying is “to work with a single client who maybe doesn't have a lot of credits and just build them an amazing portfolio.”
