From humble beginnings, Steed Cycles has come to be a renowned among the North Vancouver cycling crowd as a dealer and repair shop for high-end bikes of all types. Kim Steed, the owner and founder says that when he started in a 600 square foot location, the business was consignment only. It's since grown to occupy a 2,000 square foot shop on Marine Drive and deal in five brands of bikes.
Kim quickly realized the limits of his initial business model. “Being able to purchase new and sell new is a much better business model for growth and success.”
Steed Cycles deals in: Giant Bicycles, Santa Cruz, Devinci, Specialized and Electra. They also do precision bike fits, sell all sorts of accessories (helmets, locks, clothes, shoes, parts, etc.) and offer complete repair and tuning services in one of four service bays.
Paul McCarthy, Steed’s sales manager, says that there's a huge spectrum of customers. “You've got everything from high-end mountain riders, road cyclists and serious commuters, and then you’ve got people who are just riding to get fit.” He notes that while the shop focuses on the high-end of the market, it carries a wide range of bikes for all types of riders.
